Happy New Year love!
While January has felt like the longest month already, it is not too late to realign ourselves for the year ahead. And what better way to do that than to choose the verses that will anchor us for the next 11 months.

Below are some of the verses I’m clinging onto this year and encourage you to add to your arsenal of verses for 2026:
1 . “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. ”~ Matthew 6:33 NLT
This verse is one of my favorite anchor verses because it always reminds me to make sure I have my priorities straight. I used to think of this verse only in the context of chasing after things we want, like success, accomplishments, love, and earthly possessions. But after looking at it a bit more closely, I realized that when Jesus used the examples of the birds and the lilies in Matthew 6, He wasn’t talking about chasing after wants, but worrying about our needs.
This makes the verse resonate even more because it shows that God knows that sometimes our striving and our chasing after things is not out of selfish ambition, but out of self-preservation. And yet, He calls us not to worry about being our own providers, but to trust that He knows what we need and will look out for us. All we have to do is seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and everything else will fall into place.
So as you navigate the next 11 months, remember that God knows what you need, and He is calling you to trust Him to take care of you.
Don’t forsake your relationship with Him, even out of self-preservation.
Don’t let things like work, financial stress, or worry over your life keep you from the presence of God.
Your Heavenly Father knows what you need (Matthew 6:32), and He will make sure you are provided for.
2. “The Lord is my shepherd, I have all that I need.” ~ Psalm 23:1 NLT
By definition, a shepherd is a person who tends and rears sheep. To tend means to care for or look after, and to rear means to bring up and care for (a child) until they are fully grown. Taking the meaning of those words into consideration, we can re-read that verse as: The Lord is my caretaker and looks after me, I have all that I need.
How comforting is it to know that the God who created the heavens and the earth is so mindful of us that He considers us His children, and is as mindful of us as a caring parent is to their child. Keep that in mind as you navigate the next 11 months.
You are not navigating life aimlessly and alone, even if it feels that way sometimes.
You have a Heavenly Father who deeply cares for you and is always looking out for you.
You may not always be able to see the ways in which the Lord is caring for you, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is happening. You are cared for and loved by the Lord and that is a truth worth clinging onto this year.
3: Parable of the Three Servants: Matthew 25:14 -30 NLT
“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip. “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money. “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more. “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’ “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’ “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’” ~Matthew 25:14 -30 NLT
There is so much wisdom that can be drawn from this parable, but there are a couple of things I want to highlight as anchor themes to focus on this year. The first thing is that the man who gave out the different gifts gave them out to his servants according to their abilities. That is such an important thing to note because too often, we look to what others have and compare ourselves to them when internally qualifying or disqualifying ourselves for the things God has called us to do. But here’s the thing: the Lord knows you, and He knows what you can do.
Moreover, when we look at the man’s response to the first two servants, we can see that He responded with pride and glee to both the one who was given 5 bags of silver and the one who was given 2 bags of silver. Imagine if the one who had received 2 bags of silver focused on the fact that he hadn’t received 5 bags, instead of focusing on what he had been given. He would have been like the one who did nothing with what was given to him and wasted his gifts. Likewise, we have to be careful not to underestimate the “little” that God has given us, and know that He doesn’t think less of us when He gives us less than others; He is instead being mindful of our abilities.
The next thing I want to highlight is the reason the last servant gave for not doing anything with what was given to him: fear. Fear robs so many of us of what God has in store for us because it often keeps us in a state of paralysis, never stepping out in faith, sometimes even out of fear of not being in God’s will. But let this parable be your reminder that fear is not an excuse to sit on the things God has entrusted you with.
Do not hide yourself out of fear.
Do not hide your gifts out of fear.
Do not be so worried about losing or mishandling what God has given you that you never take a step forward.
Whatever the Lord has placed in your hands is more than enough to start whatever journey He is calling you to start. Do not underestimate the value of what is in your hands. Do not compare what is in your hands to the things that are in the hands of others. God doesn’t make mistakes, and He has given you what He has given you because you are capable of doing what He is asking of you.
4. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 NLT
Speaking of fear, I love this reminder from Isaiah that the Lord is always with us. So while things may come up this year that may lead us to getting discouraged, this verse reminds us not to give in to fear or hopelessness, because God is with us.
The part in the verse where He says “I am your God” right after telling the Israelites not to be discouraged feels like a reminder that there is nothing for us to fear because of who He is. So, reminding yourself of God’s sovereignty and power should bring you peace and reassurance this year that there is no opposition you may face that is greater than your God.
He will strengthen you and help you as His word promises. He will hold you up, so even if you feel like you no longer have the strength to keep going, don’t worry, God’s strength is enough for you. Cling onto Him, and He will hold you up. You don’t have to lean on your own strength, your own knowledge, or your own strategies. You can lean on the Lord.
5. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5–6 NLT
I don’t know about you, but I am a planner, and pre-Jesus, I had gotten used to taking care of myself and making sure I had all that I needed. So when trials come, my first instinct and desire still is to jump into action and fix whatever the problem is.
I’ve learned, however, that while I may have answers and strategies that can solve problems, the Lord’s strategies are much better and more reliable than my own. So in all I do, even in the ways I respond to challenges, I now seek the Lord’s will and trust that He will show me which path to take. I want to encourage you to do the same this year.
Do not lean on your own understanding; lean on the Lord. If He calls you to do something (or to be still and do nothing), trust that He knows best and that you don’t need to understand what He’s calling you to do to be obedient.
6. “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” ~Exodus 14:13- 14 NLT
I love this verse so much because it is such an amazing example of God’s power and how much He cares and looks after us. In the preceding verses, the Israelites had escaped Egypt and came across a dead-end in front of the Red Sea. They were now in this middle point where it looked like they were stuck between a sea with no way out, and the Egyptians coming at them on the other side. And yet in that moment of uncertainty, fear, and hopelessness, Moses tells them not to be afraid, to stand still, and watch God move on their behalf.
And that’s exactly what happens. They sit back while God parts the Red Sea for them, and they are able to walk through and get to safety on the other side.
They didn’t have to fight the Egyptians.
They didn’t have to strategize and come up with a way out on their own.
They just had to trust God, and that is something we can cling onto for the next 11 months.
We can rest in God.
We can trust Him to fight our battles.
We don’t have to be the ones to figure things out; we can trust the one who already has to lead us.
7. “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” ~ Psalm 24:1 NLT
This verse is a powerful reminder that scarcity is not our portion because the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. So no matter what it is that we need that feels out of reach, we have to remember that we are praying to the God who created heaven and earth.
The remaining parts of the psalm read: “ The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.” ~ Psalm 24:1-2
When you are praying this year, seeking the Lord for the things you need, remember that this is who you are petitioning. Approach the throne boldly, ask confidently, and trust that nothing is beyond God’s reach.
I hope you enjoyed reading these verses and that they resonated with you! And I pray 2026 is an amazing year filled with revelation in your life of God’s love, goodness, faithfulness, and mercy!
