I'm not gonna lie, 2026 has felt like a super long year already! Usually by this time of the year, I'm surprised at how fast we got to the mid-year point, but not this year. I'm so glad we're finally at the mid-year mark, so I can take inventory of all that has happened so far, the goals I've made strides towards, and be intentional with my goal-setting for the rest of the year.
I'm using the prompts in this blog to do that and invite you to use them for your mid-year check-in as well!
The 25 prompts in this blog are organized by category so you can jump straight to whichever feels most relevant to where you are right now. You don't have to do them all at once, just pick a prompt today that resonates with you and start unpacking it in your journal.

Reflecting on the Year So Far
1. Looking back at the start of this year, what were you hoping or believing for? Looking at where you are now, which of those things have come to pass, which have shifted, and which are still in process?
Sometimes we forget the intentions we set in January until we take a moment to look back. Use this prompt as an opportunity to remember and to check in with yourself about your hopes and dreams for 2026.
2. What has happened so far this year that you weren't expecting?
We often set out at the beginning of the year with specific plans and encounter unexpected things along the way that shift where we end up going. Take a moment to take inventory of the unexpected things that have happened so far this year and how they have shifted the course you set out for in January.
3. What goals did you set at the start of the year? Which ones are you still actively pursuing, which ones have shifted, and which ones do you need to release?
Be honest with yourself with this prompt. There is no shame in releasing some goals, so give yourself grace if there are some things you need to lay down right now. Unpack how you feel about each of your goals and the direction you need to take for each of them.
4. What are you most proud of from the first half of this year?
Think back through each month of the year so far and take inventory of the big and small things that have made you proud so far.
5. What are you most grateful for from the past six months?
List as many things that come to mind. Gratitude rewires the way we see our circumstances faster than anything else. And when you take the time to look back and acknowledge the good things in your life, it helps you appreciate where you are right now a little bit more.
Mental & Emotional Health Check-In
6. How are you actually doing right now?
Be honest with yourself here. Sometimes we say we're "fine" or "just tired" when there's actually something much deeper going on. This prompt is an invitation to get honest with yourself without filtering your thoughts or your feelings.
7. What has been weighing on you this season that you haven't said out loud yet?
Write it out. Sometimes the weight feels lighter just from naming the thing that you're too afraid to say out loud. You don't have to have a solution to it yet. Just put it down on paper for a moment and breathe.
Bonus: End this entry with a prayer giving the heavy thing you've been carrying to God and asking Him to help you navigate it.
8. What has weighed on your mental and emotional health the most in the first half of this year?
Make a list of the events or situations that you feel have impacted your mental and emotional health the most so far. Then go through each of them and unpack how you feel about them right now.
Bonus: End this entry with a prayer asking God to help you release any fear or anxiety associated with any of these events.
9. What's a pattern you've noticed in yourself this year that you hadn't caught before?
Are there any patterns you've picked up on in how you respond to stress, how you handle feedback, how you process change, or even how you react to rejection? Write about them, and unpack how noticing these patterns makes you feel.
Bonus: Is there something specific you can commit to, to help you fix the patterns you've uncovered about yourself?
Habits, Rhythms & Self-Care
10. What's one habit you've built this year already that you're proud of?
What helped you make this habit stick? What are some changes you anticipate seeing in your life as a result of this habit becoming a part of your routine? Write about it all in your journal.
11. What's one habit you've been telling yourself you'll work on this year, but haven't yet? What's getting in the way of you implementing this habit?
Unpack where you are with the habits you have yet to implement and be honest about what's holding you back from implementing them. This is another prompt where you have to release the shame of no longer desiring something that you thought you wanted for yourself. It's ok if you realized that you no longer want to implement that habit. But if there's something else holding you back, be honest with yourself about what it is.
12. Looking at your daily and weekly rhythms right now, what's been working and what hasn't?
At this point of the year, you have about 6 months of data to look back on to determine what's working with your routines so far and what's not. Be honest with yourself here and be intentional about acknowledging what is working so you can keep doing it.
13. If you could change one thing about your daily routine for the second half of the year, what would it be?
Think about the one thing that you feel would have the most impact on your routine. What would it be? What would implementing it look like? Have you tried implementing it before? What happened? How could you go about it differently in the second half of the year?
Relationships
14. Which of your relationships have felt life-giving so far this year, and which have felt draining?
Take a moment to think about the people you've spent the most time with this year (your friends, family, coworkers, church community). Which of those relationships have been pouring into you, impacting you in a positive way, and even challenging you? Which have felt draining or brought a side of you out that you didn't like? Write about both, and pay attention to what the patterns reveal.
15. Is there a relationship in your life right now that needs repair? What would taking one step toward healing it look like?
Think about a relationship you've been meaning to mend or repair but haven't been intentional about working on. What has been the holdup? What would intentionally working towards repairing this relationship look like? Give yourself a specific action item to take in the next couple of weeks with a deadline by which to do it.
16. Who in your life has shown up for you in the first half of this year in a way you're grateful for?
Take a moment to write down their name(s) and unpack how they showed up. Then take a moment to write out a text thanking them for being in your life.
17. What kind of friend, partner, family member, or community member do you want to be in the second half of the year?
Write about how you want to show up in your relationships for the second half of the year. What qualities do you want to cultivate? Where have you been showing up halfway? What would it look like to show up fully?
Identity / Who You're Becoming
18. If you were to describe who you're becoming in 2026 so far using ONE word, what would it be?
Think about the things you are passionate about in this season of your life, the things that make you light up, the things you want more of, and the things you are actively working towards. What word would describe the journey you're currently on? Write the word down, then unpack why you chose it.
19. What's something you're catching yourself outgrowing in real time?
Growth sometimes looks like leaving things (beliefs, habits, ways of thinking) that were always a part of you behind. Write about something you've noticed you're outgrowing and unpack what's been causing this shift to happen.
20. What qualities have been growing in you this year that weren't as strong before?
Has your patience grown? Your discernment? Your boldness? Your ability to set boundaries? Your capacity for stillness? Think through the positive qualities you've been noticing in yourself so far this year and unpack what situations have helped you notice these qualities in yourself.
21. What season would you say you're in right now (waiting, growing, healing, building, resting, etc.)?
Acknowledging the season you're in right now can help you shift your expectations. For example, if you're in a season where you're being called to rest, trying to build in this season will leave you frustrated because you're trying to force yourself to produce something that is not meant for this season. Be honest with yourself about what season you feel like the Lord has you in right now, and unpack how you feel about this season.
Faith & Spiritual Life
22. How would you describe your relationship with God right now?
Do you feel close to God? Distant from Him? Upset with Him? Frustrated about an unanswered prayer? Be honest with yourself when answering this prompt and think about how you would answer this question if you were talking to God about it. He knows the truth, so you wouldn't lie to Him when answering this question. Don't lie to yourself either.
23. What's a spiritual discipline you've been struggling to be consistent with this year?
Is it your Bible study time, your prayer time, being intentional about your weekly Sabbath, going to church consistently, fasting, or something else? Whatever it is, write about it in your journal and unpack why you feel like this has been such a struggle. What's one thing you can do for the next 6 months to be more consistent with this spiritual discipline?
Bonus: Share this struggle with a friend, and ask them to hold you accountable as you work on being more consistent with this for the rest of the year.
24. What's one truth about God's character that has carried you through this year so far?
Think about a specific moment in the past six months when you needed to know He was your refuge, provider, healer, or comforter, and He revealed Himself to you as such. Write about that moment, and what it taught you about who God is.
25. Is there something God has been calling you to do in the last 6 months that you have not done yet?
Write about it here and unpack why you have been hesitant to be obedient. End this entry with a prayer asking the Lord for forgiveness for your disobedience and asking Him for the strength and boldness to do what He is calling you to do.
Bonus: Who can you reach out to for accountability or to help you overcome the fear you're feeling about what God is calling you to do? Reach out to them and ask for their help.
Bonus Prompt: If you could write a letter to the version of yourself who will be reading this in December, what would you tell her?
Be honest, encouraging, and a friend to your future self that you wish someone would be to you right now.
Happy Journaling!
